MAKATI CITY, July 6, 2026 – Member of Parliament Abdulbasit R. Benito delivered a manifestation during the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) of the Committee on Women, Children, and Persons with Disabilities, chaired by MP Abrar Hataman, held at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Makati City.
In his manifestation, MP Benito emphasized that the situation of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the Bangsamoro is distinct from that of the rest of the country due to the region's long history of armed conflict. He noted that many physical, visual, and hearing disabilities among Bangsamoro residents resulted from the effects of war.
Despite these challenges, MP Benito remarked that the Bangsamoro struggle could also be regarded as a "mobile university," explaining that the experiences brought about by years of conflict have taught the Bangsamoro people valuable lessons and contributed to their resilience and collective identity.
Committee Chairperson MP Abrar Hataman expressed his appreciation for MP Benito's manifestation, particularly for providing important context on the unique circumstances of persons with disabilities in the Bangsamoro. MP Hataman underscored the importance of crafting legislation that reflects the actual experiences, realities, and needs of the people it is intended to serve.
