Makati City | June 4, 2025 — With a deep sense of duty to strengthen economic empowerment in the Bangsamoro region, Member of Parliament Abdulbasit R. Benito participated today in the Consultation Meeting for the Drafting of the Legislative Measure for the Creation of the Bangsamoro Small Business Corporation (BSBC). The meeting was facilitated by the Office of MP Romeo Sema and held at the Berjaya Makati Hotel.
Bringing together policymakers, technical experts, and development partners, the consultation served as a vital platform for laying the groundwork for a measure that could significantly uplift micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across the region—businesses that serve as the backbone of local communities.
In his participation, MP Benito emphasized the need for inclusive, accessible, and culturally sensitive economic support mechanisms, especially for grassroots entrepreneurs in conflict-affected and underserved areas.
“Small businesses are more than just sources of income—they are vehicles of peace, stability, and empowerment. If we provide them with the right tools and access to capital, we are helping build not only livelihoods but also hope for a better Bangsamoro,” MP Benito shared during the session.
The proposed Bangsamoro Small Business Corporation (BSBC) aims to function as a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) that would deliver financial assistance, enterprise development services, and capacity-building programs to small businesses in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). It mirrors similar national models while being tailored to the unique needs of the Bangsamoro context.
MP Benito also underscored the importance of aligning the BSBC’s objectives with the broader aspirations of moral governance, inclusive development, and long-term peacebuilding.
“We must ensure this Corporation becomes a lifeline for those who have long been left behind. Let this be a legacy of our Parliament—that we built strong foundations for Bangsamoro’s economic self-reliance,” he added.
As deliberations continue, MP Benito reaffirmed his full support for the measure and expressed his commitment to ensuring that the final legislative draft reflects the voices of Bangsamoro entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and social enterprises.
The consultation marks another milestone in the Parliament’s ongoing mission to legislate transformative programs that respond to the socio-economic realities of the Bangsamoro people.
