MP Abdulbasit R. Benito Attends Historic BARMM Leadership Turnover Ceremony

COTABATO CITY – March 27, 2025 – A new chapter in Bangsamoro’s governance unfolded today as Member of Parliament (MP) Abdulbasit R. Benito joined key leaders and officials in the formal turnover of leadership in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). The ceremony, held at the Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex within the Bangsamoro Government Center, saw the transition of leadership from former Interim Chief Minister Ahod Balawag Ebrahim—represented by Senior Minister Abonawas Maslamama—to the newly appointed Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua.

The event was a significant moment for the region, symbolizing both continuity and progress as BARMM moves forward in its governance and preparations for its first-ever parliamentary elections in October.

MP Benito’s presence underscored the importance of collective leadership and cooperation in ensuring a smooth transition of power. As a dedicated public servant, he has been vocal about his commitment to strengthening the region’s governance and supporting policies that uplift the Bangsamoro people.

During the ceremony, officials highlighted the accomplishments of the previous administration under Chief Minister Ebrahim and expressed confidence in Chief Minister Macacua’s ability to continue the region’s development. Leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to upholding the peace process and ensuring that BARMM remains on the path of progress.

“This transition is a testament to the resilience of our people and the strength of our institutions. We stand united in ensuring that BARMM’s governance remains stable and responsive to the needs of our constituents,” MP Benito remarked after the ceremony.

The event was attended by members of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament, national government representatives, and various stakeholders, all showing their support for the new leadership.

With Macacua now at the helm, the Bangsamoro government aims to continue its initiatives on peace, development, and self-determination, paving the way for a stronger and more empowered Bangsamoro region.
