MP Abdulbasit Benito Visits Earthquake-Damaged Masjid in General Santos City, Assesses Reconstruction Needs

GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Member of Parliament Abdulbasit R. Benito today visited a masjid in General Santos City that sustained severe damage following the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that recently struck parts of Mindanao.
The visit was conducted to assess the extent of the damage and determine possible assistance for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the masjid. MP Benito also met with community members and local leaders to better understand their immediate needs and concerns in the aftermath of the disaster.
"The destruction is heartbreaking, but the faith, resilience, and unity of the affected community remain unshaken," Benito said while inspecting the damaged structure.
He emphasized the importance of providing support to affected communities and ensuring that places of worship can once again serve as centers of faith, unity, and community life.
"Let us continue to pray for those affected and support efforts toward recovery and rebuilding," MP Benito added.
Despite the significant damage caused by the earthquake, members of the community expressed optimism and determination to rebuild.
MP Benito reaffirmed his commitment to exploring available avenues of assistance and working with relevant stakeholders to support the reconstruction of the masjid and the recovery of affected families.
The visit reflects ongoing efforts to assess the impact of the earthquake and mobilize support for communities striving to recover and rebuild stronger in its aftermath.
