MP Abdulbasit Benito Joins Public Consultation on Sulu Reapportionment Bill, Participants Push for District in SGA

Midsayap, North Cotabato – Member of Parliament Abdulbasit R. Benito actively participated in the public consultation on the proposed bill seeking to reapportion the seven districts of Sulu, held this morning, June 20, 2025, at White Hut Restaurant in Midsayap, North Cotabato.
The consultation was spearheaded by the Committee on Local Government of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament, chaired by MP Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo. The event gathered key stakeholders—including local government officials, sectoral leaders, and civil society groups—to provide valuable insights and recommendations on the proposed legislative measure.
In his message, MP Abdulbasit Benito reiterated his commitment to inclusive representation and meaningful consultations in the legislative process.
> “We must ensure that every voice is heard, especially those from the ground. Reapportionment is not just about numbers—it is about justice, equity, and empowering the communities we serve,” Benito emphasized.
The consultation was marked by the active participation of local government units in the region, reflecting their strong interest and concern regarding the potential impact of redistricting. LGU representatives expressed their full support for a reapportionment that addresses both historical and current demographic realities.
One of the most resounding proposals raised during the discussion was the overwhelming call for the creation of two (2) parliamentary districts within the Special Geographic Areas (SGA). Participants emphasized that the growing population and distinct needs of the SGA communities warrant dedicated representation in the Bangsamoro Parliament.
Chairman MP Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo assured the participants that all inputs and proposals will be carefully considered by the committee in its final recommendations to the Parliament.
This consultation is part of the broader effort to prepare for the upcoming 1st Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections set for October 13, 2025, with the aim of ensuring fair and representative governance across the region.
As Parliament continues its mission to uphold inclusive and responsive legislation, MP Benito’s presence in the dialogue reflects his unwavering support for communities both within and beyond his constituency—anchoring his advocacy on unity, equity, and meaningful representation in the evolving Bangsamoro landscape.
