MP Abdulbasit Benito Attends Parliament Session as Lawmakers Push Key Measures Forward

Member of Parliament Abdulbasit R. Benito took part in Session No. 87 of the Bangsamoro Parliament's Fourth Regular Session, where lawmakers tackled a number of important legislative matters. During the session, two new bills were introduced for first reading, three others moved forward to second reading, and one resolution was officially adopted.
Also present was BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua, who emphasized the urgency of three priority measures. These were quickly advanced for further legislative action.
Among the highlighted proposals were two bills aimed at redistributing seven parliamentary seats originally set for Sulu—seats left unassigned due to a past Supreme Court ruling. The task of reviewing these proposals now lies with the Committee on Rules and the Committee on Amendments.
Another significant proposal discussed was the creation of the Lake Lanao Management Authority, intended to safeguard one of the region’s most vital ecosystems. This bill is now being reviewed by the appropriate parliamentary committees.
In a solemn moment, members unanimously adopted a resolution condemning the tragic killings of Jojo Abo and Bai Maceda Lidasan-Abo, a municipal election officer. Lawmakers offered their condolences to the victims’ families and urged authorities to pursue justice.
MP Benito’s participation reflects his continued commitment to shaping policy that addresses both the structural and social needs of the Bangsamoro region.
