Cotabato City, April 8, 2025 — Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua praised the ongoing efforts of Member of Parliament Abdulbasit R. Benito for reaching out to civil society organizations (CSOs) through series of consultations and dialogues.
Speaking during a gathering of Parliament members held yesterday at Al Nor Hotel, Macacua highlighted the importance of listening to the voices of the people—especially CSO stakeholders—when crafting laws. “It’s always valuable to feel the pulse of our communities. By integrating their suggestions and proposals into the legislative process, we ensure that the laws we pass are not only effective but truly responsive to the needs of the people,” he said.
The commendation came shortly after MP Benito shared his plan to sponsor a bill that would strengthen CSO participation in Parliament.
Macacua also took the opportunity to clarify that MP Benito’s appointment to Parliament came through his own recommendation. “No group influenced that decision, I chose him", the Chief Minister stressed.
Benito’s initiative has been seen by many as a step toward more inclusive and people-centered governance in the Bangsamoro region.
